What Are Dermal Fillers?

Time, environmental exposures, gravity, and genetics all contribute to the appearance of our skin and facial architecture. Since their introduction in the 1980s and 1990s, dermal fillers have revolutionized the way dermatologists are able to correct aged appearance.

Dermal fillers are gels that are injected into the skin and subcutaneous tissues in order to redrape the skin, restore volume, and reposition tissues. With little-to-no downtime, injection of dermal fillers can often yield results similar to a facelift without the need for surgery. Fillers can help to soften unwanted deep lines, restore lost facial volume, and improve the appearance of stubborn scars. The choice of fillers differs from person-to-person and includes products from the Belotero Balance®, Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, RHA®, and Sculptra® product lines. Dr. Rieder has been injecting dermal fillers since the early 2010s and is able to customize injection protocols to suit the uniqueness of each individual’s needs.

What Can Be Expected From a Dermal Filler Procedure?

Your comfort is paramount during these procedures. We applying a numbing cream for at least 15 minutes (though sometimes longer depending on patient preference / sensitivity). Immediately prior to treatment, the area to be injected is iced and prepped with a surgical wash to sterilize the area. This minimizes the chances of bruising and infection.

Mild swelling can be expected after treatment, and may be more pronounced in certain sensitive areas such as the lips.
