The Loss of Facial Structure Over Time
The human face and body age; this process is inevitable, but occurs at different ages, rates, and in different ways for different people. Time, gravity, and environmental factors can all contribute to this process. In general, volume is lost from certain facial structures, other structures lose their elasticity and tightness, and the result is that faces tend to migrate downwards and centrally with time. This can be most easily visualized by the folds present between the corners of the nostrils and the mouth and the jowls that develop on the jawline.
How Can Facial Volume and Contour Be Restored?
Dr. Rieder’s approach to the restoration of facial volume and contour is to redrape and reposition tissue and replace lost volume in the most natural way possible. This process typically involves using microdroplets of soft tissue fillers in various areas across the face.
Can Fillers Increase Volume in My Face and Body?
Soft tissue fillers (dermal fillers) are the safest way to replace volume in the face and body. Typically hyaluronic acid fillers are utilized. These are extremely safe and clean versions of the sugar building blocks of the collagen that is normally found in human skin. They are injected either with a fine needle or a blunt cannula. Sometimes injection patterns are quite straightforward (e.g. a simple enhancement a lip that is not proportional to the size of the overall face), but in other situations, injection patterns may be far more nuanced. For example, Dr. Rieder may place multiple different soft tissue fillers of different consistencies/thicknesses at different depths. Thicker, more solid fillers recreate facial scaffolding and then thinner, more superficial fillers allow him to soften etched-in fine lines to create the most smooth palette. In other instances, Dr. Rieder may use a bio-stimulatory volumizer to harness the body’s own ability to smoothen, tighten and improve skin texture.
Dr. Rieder is comfortable with and regularly utilizes a large portfolio of soft tissue fillers including those of the Belotero®, Juvederm®, Restylane®, RHA®, Sculptra® families.
